Important News

--- 10/27/2023 ---

The Iowa City Assessor's Office has moved to the third floor of the Health and Human Services Building at 855 S Dubuque Street. We will be operating out of that space until late summer 2024.

--- 08/23/2023 ---

65+ Homestead Exemption and Business Property Tax Credit will not appear on the property tax bill due in September 2023 / March 2024.

Homestead Exemptions for those who are 65 years of age or older and signed by July 1, 2023 will be applied to the 2023 assessment.  The 2023 assessment will have taxes due in September 2024 and March 2025.  The current tax bill is based on the 2022 assessment and includes credits/exemptions that were signed by July 1, 2022.

For Commercial, Industrial and Railroad Property - beginning for the 2022 assessment year property taxes, the Business Property Tax Credit has been repealed and replaced with a Two-Tier Assessment Limitation.  The first $150,000 of assessed value will now receive an assessment limitation that is equal to Residential Property (54.6501%).  The remainder of assessed value will continue to receive an assessment limitation of 90%.  More information is available at https://tax.iowa.gov/hf2552-bptc
